Welcome to Brennenstuhl!

Tower-Power retractable extension lead for desks and worktops

The brennenstuhl® Tower-Power is a retractable extension lead designed for permanent installation in a desk, worktop or other suitable work surface. When power sockets are needed, the unit can be pulled up from the surface. When it is no longer required, it can be pushed back down so that the sockets take up very little space on the worktop.

This makes Tower-Power particularly useful where sockets need to remain close at hand without a conventional extension lead permanently occupying the desk or work surface. Typical applications include home offices, workplaces, kitchens and home workshops.

What is a retractable extension lead?

A retractable extension lead is installed directly into a suitable work surface. Instead of lying loose on the desk or worktop, the socket unit is integrated into the surface and can be extended when power is required. Once the connected devices have been unplugged, the unit can be retracted again.

The main advantage is that the sockets are available exactly where they are needed while the work surface remains largely free when they are not in use. This can be particularly useful in areas where available space is limited or where a tidy, permanently installed solution is preferred.

Where can Tower-Power be installed?

Tower-Power can be used in suitable desks, worktops and other furniture surfaces. Common applications include office desks, home office workstations, kitchen worktops and work areas where electrical devices are regularly connected in the same place.

Before installation, make sure that there is sufficient space both above and below the work surface for the retractable unit. The position should also allow the mains cable to reach a suitable socket without being stretched, trapped or routed in a way that could cause damage.

How is Tower-Power installed?

Tower-Power is designed for permanent installation in a suitable work surface. A corresponding opening is made in the surface and the unit is then secured in position according to the installation instructions. Current Tower-Power models use a compact installation concept, with selected versions designed for a 60 mm opening.

The exact installation dimensions and requirements should always be checked in the instructions for the individual product before cutting or drilling the work surface. This is particularly important when installing the unit in furniture, kitchen worktops or other surfaces where the available space underneath may be limited.

What are the advantages of a retractable extension lead?

The main benefit is the combination of permanent installation and flexible access to power. Sockets remain close to the point of use without requiring a conventional extension lead to stay permanently on the work surface. This can help keep desks and worktops clearer and make it easier to organise connected cables.

A retractable design can also be useful where the appearance of the workspace matters. When the sockets are not needed, the unit can be lowered into the surface rather than remaining visible and taking up usable space.

Is Tower-Power suitable for a home office?

Yes. A retractable extension lead can be particularly practical in a home office because it provides power directly at the desk without leaving a conventional extension lead on the work surface. Devices such as notebooks, monitors, chargers or other workplace equipment can be connected when required, while the socket unit can be retracted when it is no longer needed.

Whether Tower-Power is the best solution depends on the layout of the desk and how often connections need to be changed. If permanent equipment is mainly connected underneath the desk, a mounted extension lead may be more practical. More ideas for organising power around a workstation are available in Extension leads for the home office.

Can Tower-Power be installed in a kitchen worktop?

Tower-Power can also be useful in suitable kitchen worktops where sockets are needed close to small electrical appliances but should not permanently occupy the available surface. The retractable design allows the socket unit to be brought into position when required and lowered again afterwards.

The installation location and product specification must be suitable for the intended environment. In particular, the unit should not be positioned where it may be exposed to conditions for which the product is not designed. Always observe the installation and safety instructions supplied with the individual model.

Is Tower-Power available with USB connections?

Depending on the model, Tower-Power is available not only with mains sockets but also with additional connections such as USB charging ports. Selected variants combine the retractable socket unit with USB charging, while other versions add network connections such as LAN alongside the power sockets.

Which version is most suitable depends on how the work surface will be used. A desk where smartphones, tablets or other mobile devices are regularly charged may benefit from integrated USB connections, while a conventional version may be sufficient where only mains power is required.

What is the difference between Tower-Power and a conventional desktop extension lead?

A conventional desktop extension lead sits on or beside the work surface and can usually be repositioned when required. Tower-Power, by contrast, is permanently installed in the work surface and can be retracted into it when it is not being used.

The better solution therefore depends on whether flexibility or integration is more important. A movable extension lead is easier to reposition, while Tower-Power provides a fixed and space-saving solution for work areas where sockets are regularly required in the same location.

What is the difference between Tower-Power and a wall mounted extension lead?

A wall or furniture-mounted extension lead remains permanently accessible in a fixed position, for example underneath a desk or on a workbench. Tower-Power is integrated directly into the work surface and can be lowered when it is not required.

If sockets should remain hidden when not in use, a retractable solution can be particularly convenient. If permanently connected equipment needs to remain plugged in underneath a desk, a fixed mounted extension lead may be more suitable. Different mounting solutions are explained in Wall mounted extension leads.

What should I consider before installing Tower-Power?

  • Installation space: Check that there is enough room above and below the work surface for the complete retractable unit.
  • Installation dimensions: Follow the dimensions specified for the individual Tower-Power model before cutting the work surface.
  • Location: Choose a position where the sockets can be reached comfortably when extended.
  • Cable routing: Make sure the mains cable can reach the supply socket without being stretched, crushed or trapped.
  • Required connections: Decide whether mains sockets alone are sufficient or whether USB or network connections are also useful.
  • Electrical load: The combined power consumption of connected devices must remain within the maximum electrical load specified for the individual product.
  • Environment: Make sure the product is suitable for the conditions at the intended installation location.

When is Tower-Power a good choice?

Tower-Power is particularly suitable where power sockets are regularly needed directly at a desk or worktop but should not permanently occupy the available surface. The retractable design combines fixed installation with convenient access to power and can help create a cleaner, more organised workspace.

If the extension lead needs to remain mobile, be frequently repositioned or supply devices in different locations, a conventional desktop or multi-socket extension lead may be the more practical choice.
