Welcome to Brennenstuhl!

Premium-Protect-Line surge protected extension leads

The brennenstuhl® Premium-Protect-Line is designed for applications where sensitive or valuable electronic equipment should be protected against short-term voltage spikes. Depending on the model, the range combines high-performance surge protection with additional functions such as interference suppression, USB charging, USB-C Power Delivery or Main-Follow switching.

Typical applications include computers, televisions, gaming equipment, audio systems and network devices. The most suitable model depends not only on the surge protection rating, but also on the number of sockets and the additional functions required for the connected equipment.

What is the Premium-Protect-Line?

Premium-Protect-Line extension leads combine several mains sockets with integrated surge protection in a robust aluminium housing. The range is Made in Germany and includes models with different maximum surge current ratings and equipment configurations.

The product family is intended for users who want more than a standard multi-socket extension lead and place particular importance on protecting sensitive electronics. Depending on the model, the extension lead may also provide switching functions, USB charging or automatic control of connected devices.

Which devices can the Premium-Protect-Line be used for?

The Premium-Protect-Line is particularly suitable for electronic equipment where additional protection against voltage spikes is desired. This can include PCs and monitors, televisions and home cinema systems, gaming hardware, audio equipment, routers, network devices and other sensitive electronics.

The value of the equipment is only one consideration. Devices that store important data, provide network connectivity or would be difficult to replace can also make a higher level of surge protection worth considering.

What is the difference between 60,000 A and 120,000 A?

Premium-Protect-Line extension leads are available with different maximum surge current ratings. The figure describes the specified surge current capacity of the protective circuit and is one technical value used to compare surge protection products.

A model with 120,000 A has a higher specified maximum surge current capacity than a 60,000 A model, but the highest figure is not automatically necessary for every application. The connected equipment and the complete product specification should be considered together when choosing a suitable extension lead.

The meaning of these ratings is explained in more detail in Surge current ratings for extension leads.

What does the integrated interference suppression filter do?

Premium-Protect-Line models use an integrated EMI/RFI interference suppression filter to reduce high-frequency electrical interference. This performs a different function from surge protection: surge protection limits short-term voltage peaks, while the filter is designed to reduce electrical noise that may affect sensitive electronic equipment.

How this works and when interference suppression can be useful is explained in Interference suppression filters in extension leads.

Which Premium-Protect-Line model is right for me?

Start by looking at the equipment you want to connect. Consider the required number of sockets, the desired surge protection rating and whether additional functions such as USB charging, USB-C Power Delivery or automatic Main-Follow switching are useful for your setup.

A simpler Premium-Protect-Line model may be sufficient if the main requirement is surge protection for several electronic devices. More extensively equipped variants can be useful where charging connections or automatic control of associated equipment are also required.

Premium-Protect-Line with USB and USB-C

Selected Premium-Protect-Line extension leads combine surge protection with integrated USB charging. Depending on the model, USB-A or USB-C Power Delivery can be available, allowing compatible mobile devices to be charged directly at the extension lead without an additional plug-in charger.

Charging connections should be chosen according to the devices being used. The available USB type and charging output depend on the individual model, so the technical specification should be checked before purchasing.

Premium-Protect-Line with Main-Follow function

Selected Premium-Protect-Line models also include a Main-Follow function. One device is connected to the Main socket and controls selected Follow sockets automatically according to its power consumption. This can be useful for setups where several devices are normally used together, such as a computer with peripherals or an entertainment system.

Some models additionally provide permanently powered sockets for devices that need to remain connected. How automatic switching works is explained in Main-Follow extension leads.

What should I consider when choosing a Premium-Protect-Line extension lead?

  • Connected equipment: Consider which devices you want to protect and how important continuous operation or replacement value is.
  • Surge current rating: Compare the protection specification with your requirements rather than selecting solely by the highest value.
  • Number of sockets: Choose enough connections for the devices that will be used regularly.
  • USB charging: Check whether USB-A, USB-C or Power Delivery is useful for your equipment.
  • Switching functions: Decide whether a conventional switch or Main-Follow control is required.
  • Cable length: Select a model that reaches the intended location without unnecessary tension or excess cable.
  • Maximum electrical load: The combined power consumption of all connected devices must remain within the rating specified for the individual extension lead.

Does higher surge protection increase the maximum electrical load?

No. The surge current rating and the maximum electrical load describe different characteristics of the extension lead. A higher surge current rating relates to the surge protection circuit and does not mean that more electrical power can be drawn during normal operation.

The combined power consumption of all connected equipment must always remain within the maximum electrical load specified for the individual product.

Why choose Premium-Protect-Line?

Premium-Protect-Line is designed for users who want to combine multi-socket power distribution with a high level of surge protection and a robust aluminium housing. Depending on the model, additional functions such as interference suppression, USB charging, USB-C Power Delivery or Main-Follow provide further flexibility for different electronic setups.

The right model therefore depends on the devices being protected and the functions actually required. Comparing the complete product specification is more useful than choosing only by the highest surge current rating.
