How often do I have to test the smoke detector alarm?
The test requirements are specified in the manual. In the Federal states, smoke detectors are required to be tested and inspected yearly, according to DIN 14676 and consisting of visual and alarm checking.
How often do I have to change the battery?
The battery must be changed according to manufacturer specifications. Smoke detector have a "Battery Change Indicator" which emits a signal tone and lights up a LED if necessary to indicate a weakening of the battery.
What kind of interfering sources or disturbances can cause a false alarm?
The most common sources of interference include: water vapor, roasting, swirling dust and major temperature fluctuations.
Can the alarm be shut off manually?
The alarm, depending on the model, can be disabled through the mute button. If the battery is removed, be sure to insert it again in order to get the smoke detector in operation again. (Install the battery again!)
Can I test the smoke detector myself?
Yes, press the device until a beep sounds. If there is no beep, the device needs to be repaired or replaced.
What can I do if the smoke alarm device has a malfunction or emits a false alarm?
Ensure that no fire hazard actually exists. Depending on the model, the alarm can be turned off by pressing the mute button or removing the battery. Be sure to set the smoke detector in operation again! Locate the source of disturbance and remove it, and then test the device to make sure it is functioning properly.
